Local families currently have limited access to suitable play equipment within easy walking distance of their homes. The nearest playgrounds and play facilities are further away, meaning that younger children and families may need to travel by car or walk a considerable distance to access suitable play equipment. This walk includes crossing busy roads. Many children are therefore playing on local farmland instead which is not safe or appropriate. Other communities in bromsgrove have access to small local playgrounds or equipment.
We believe that allowing children to continue playing on rope swings or installing some small, modest play equipment on the existing council-owned green space near Greyshott Road would give local children a safe and accessible opportunity to play closer to home. It would also make positive use of existing public land and provide a simple addition that could benefit local families. A large number of properties on this road are owned by families with children. We believe that increased appropriate use of the green space will increase visibility in the area making it safer and less likely to invite antisocial behaviour.
In recent months, we have seen a significant increase in use of this space with provision of very little equipment for local families. We have noticed a decrease in antisocial behaviours such as drug use and littering. There has been an increase in native wildlife and promotion of sustainable activities.
