A Guide to the Council and its Committees
Like every other Council, Bromsgrove District Council makes all its most important decisions through its elected Members - these are the Councillors who are elected "through the ballot box" (that is, at local District Council elections) every 4 years. Only minor and/or routine matters are decided by the paid officers.
There are 39 elected Members who meet approximately eight times each year at The Council House, but in order to organise itself to carry out its heavy workload in the most effective manner, decisions of the Council are dealt with by the Executive Cabinet and Regulatory Committees, which deal with particular subjects and services.
Some matters are considered by the Scrutiny and Standards Committees, and are then referred to the Council meeting for information or ratification (confirmation) only.
The Committee structure, and the membership of each Committee is reviewed each year at the Council's annual meeting in May.
If you are not sure which "body" (Cabinet, Committee, Board, Group or 'full' Council) deals with a particular matter, you can email k.firth@bromsgrove.gov.uk with details of your enquiry.
